Tottenham Hotspur fans react to getting Morecambe in the FA Cup third round
Tottenham Hotspur have drawn Morecambe from League One for the third round fixture of the FA Cup this season. The match will take place at our home, but regardless of that, we should be the favourites going into this fixture.
Both teams will be facing each other in a competitive fixture for the first time. The game is expected to take place between the 7th and 10th of January 2022. The League One side is currently 20th in the league, but we should not take them lightly after what happened against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Last season, we got beaten at the hands of Everton, who sent us crashing out through an extra-time goal. The match was tied 4-4 after 90 minutes, but the winner took them to the quarter-finals of the competition. We would need to fare better than our run last time as we look to earn our first trophy under Antonio Conte.
The FA Cup could give us a great opportunity to break the title drought that has seen us suffer over the years. The last trophy we won was back in 2008 when we won the League Cup by beating Chelsea in the final.
We still have a long way to go before contending for the Premier League title but cup competitions are what we should eye initially under Conte. Form and quality do not always matter in one-off games and hence, we cannot take any team lightly over the course of the competition.
But it would be wrong to not recognize our luck with this draw. Drawing an inferior team such as Morecambe hands Conte the chance to field a comparatively weaker team in the midst of a tight schedule. Whether the Italian actually chooses to go down that route remains to be seen.
