Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg explains why he believes success can be achieved at Tottenham Hotspur

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has enjoyed decent individual success since his move to Tottenham Hotspur and has not been affected by the change in managers during that period. He has continued the good form that he showed under Jose Mourinho and Ryan Mason under Antonio Conte while becoming a key component in the new system.

The 26-year-old joined the club in 2020 for a fee of around £25million from Southampton. Since his move, he has barely missed a game and has had 52 successive starts in the Premier League. He has made 76 appearances for his side in total, and has scored five goals while assisting six times in the process.

Speaking in an interview for the matchday programme (h/t Football.London), Hojbjerg has explained how his personality helps him believe that success is attainable at Tottenham. Known as the “Viking”, his mindset would match the passion that Conte demands from his players.

Speaking in the interview, the midfielder highlighted that he believes success is possible at Tottenham and also went on to mention that he is a fan of football in England because the festive football period is a great way of giving something back to the people.

“I’m a very ambitious person. I demand a lot from myself, which makes me push myself every day and give my best, which is the main target. Always try to give your best and, with that, I have hope and I am confident that big things can be achieved.”

“To be able to give some joy and excitement through football, not only to ourselves but to the people following us, that is something exciting to be part of as a player. “This is why I love English football, the English set-up, all the games, people excited about it at Christmas time, we can eat salad while people eat pudding and have a pint. No problem with that!

A man of action

Just like the Denmark international said, with the right desire and mentality, we can achieve our targets. The Italian coach will be delighted to hear this as it describes what he would be asking for from his players. We would need to have the drive to help us extinguish the trophy drought that has seen us over the years.

As for the busy schedule, it’s nice to see him positive about the whole situation. We as fans do enjoy a flurry of games, getting to see our favourite team in action, but it can take a toll on the players. He has spent around five and a half years in England since his move from Bayern Munich in 2016.

The midfielder also mentioned how the up and downs of life helped him to strengthen his mind and, similarly, we should use the lack of success to boost ourselves and reach our goals. As for the Dane, he has helped us solve a major selection headache in midfield.

Hojbjerg is one of the first names on the team sheet and while his partner, or at times partners, in midfield can change, he remains a constant. Such stability is always appreciated, especially in a key area of the pitch such as central midfield.

Spurs face Stade Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday when our qualification will be on the line. We need all the drive we can conjure as our future in this competition would depend on whether we would match the result of Vitesse Arnhem or not.
