Gary Neville believes Manchester City will drop their interest in Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane
According to Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Gary Neville has suggested that Manchester City would back off from their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane pursuit to go all out for the signature of Erling Haaland instead.
The Norwegian has become the new young sensation in the football world. The 21-year-old has been turning heads of elite teams with his consistently high-level performances.
In a recent interview, Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola had suggested that Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City are the possible future destinations for the former Molde man.
This undoubtedly provided a boost to Man City’s pursuit of the player. However, the news could also boost the morale of Tottenham, who risked losing Kane to a direct rival. The English forward was heavily linked with a move to Etihad Stadium in the previous summer.
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has suggested that looking at the recent form of Harry Kane, Pep Guardiola’s team could be reluctant to the idea of spending a whopping transfer fee on him.
‘We know how desperately City wanted Harry Kane last summer that didn’t happen. I’m not sure now; they’d go back to Harry Kane next year just basically because of what happened.”
Nevertheless, Neville believes City would shift their interest into Haaland.
‘I think Haaland is going to be the big story.”
Despite his disappointing start to the season, Kane has performed for the England side during the international break. The British captain registered two hat-tricks in the World Cup qualifying stage and guided the Three Lions to next summer’s tournament.
Kane has been a loyal servant of Spurs and could be one of the most valuable assets that the North London team holds at the current moment. His form tells very little about what he can offer on the top stage.
Last season, the 28-year-old forward enjoyed a goal-laden season and earned the Premier League golden boot. Thus, it becomes essential for the North London team to keep hold of the superstar.
