Transfer News: Tottenham join Manchester United, Man City, and Barcelona in the hunt for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen
According to Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the signature of Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
Andreas Christensen has had a monumental leap in his career under the mentorship of Thomas Tuchel. In the last few seasons, he has proved himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League. The Danish player has already made 17 appearances this season for the Blues.
Indeed, Chelsea have looked secure at the back with him on the field. However, Marina Granovskaia’s board still hasn’t secured his signature on a renewal deal with his deal expiring next summer.
This impasse between Chelsea and Christensen has attracted a lot of attention from various top teams. Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan and Barcelona have all kept tabs on the situation. However, it is believed that Tottenham have also entered the race to get his signature.
Tottenham recently suffered a setback regarding an injury to crucial defender Cristian Romero. Even though Spurs still have viable options for the position, the need for depth and quality would still be there considering we lost Toby Alderweireld in the summer and now play in a 3-at-the-back formation under Antonio Conte.
There is the duo of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez but they can, in all honesty, be upgraded upon by the club. Some shaky defending from young Joe Rodon pushed Spurs to a Europa Conference League defeat against NS Mura in late November while Japhet Tanganga continues to find a regular role for himself in the Italian’s matchday squad.
In Christensen, we would get a player who has shown his ability in the Premier League and is already accustomed to English conditions. And for the 25-year-old Dane, a move to Spurs means he wouldn’t really have to relocate his life considering both teams are in London.

If Christensen decided to leave Stamford Bridge, Spurs would get very few options better than him in the market at this moment, especially considering that he would then be a free agent. Signing a top player at the peak of his career from a bitter rival would be the cherry on top for our fans.
