Antonio Conte: It is a good thing that Tottenham Hotspur will face Liverpool
Antonio Conte has expressed that it is a good thing that Tottenham Hotspur will face Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League. Tottenham will get involved in a match after quite some time following the outbreak of Covid within their camp.
The virus breakout has seen two of our league games, namely against Brentford and Leicester City, get postponed. Earlier, the UEFA Europa Conference League game against Stade Rennais endure the same fate because of the situation.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), Conte has conveyed that it is fantastic that the team will face an opponent like the Reds, having not played for quite some time. He added that the team needed a fixture like this to get them back into the desired fitness level.
“We are coming over a period of two weeks where we’ve not played, so at this moment to play against a strong team could be a good thing for us. These types of game give you excitement, give you more fire. For sure, we will face difficulty and we have to be prepared to suffer during the game. We have to know, also, when we have the ball, we can hurt everybody.”
“Liverpool are strong, always. I think Jurgen made a fantastic job with Liverpool. He needed a bit of time, but the club understood Jurgen was the right person and he has created a strong, strong team. It’s amazing to watch them, the intensity, the passion, for all the work they show during the game.”
Man of passion and optimism
The Italian coach’s mentality is highly contagious, which would be a great thing to have for helping the team get through these obstacles. As he said, sometimes high profile matches like these would give the necessary drive to bridge the gap created by the hurdles along the way.
We would have been excited to face off against Jurgen Klopp’s side since it would have been our first “real test” under the 52-year-old boss. While the recent outbreak has created a pallor on proceedings, getting all three points this weekend would be a very welcome outcome.

However, due to the setbacks, the players would have lost their match sharpness and fitness, which would create concerns coming into the clash. We hope that the drive and desire will be enough to compensate for the other issues that the team will have when facing Klopp’s team.
Knowing the German, his team will be prepared regardless of the obstacles. The onus is on us to do the same.
