Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane says the team was disappointed in the dressing room after Liverpool draw
Tottenham Hotspur had a fantastic performance against Liverpool in the Premier League, but Harry Kane says that the squad was disappointed for not winning the clash. He would have been relieved to be on the scoresheet following a long goal drought in the league.
Kane opened the scoring after his team had sustained heavy pressure from the Reds but Diogo Jota levelled the scoring ten minutes before halftime. Andy Robertson gave the visitors the lead past the hour mark, but it was short-lived as Son Heung-Min scored just five minutes later.
Speaking in an interview with Spurs TV (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), the 28-year-old expressed how the team believes they let Jurgen Klopp’s sides back into the game. He added how they could have won the match on another day had they finished the chances. Not to mention, we played around 15 minutes of the game with Liverpool down to 10 men after Andy Robertson was sent off for a challenge on Emerson Royal.
“There was definitely some disappointment in the dressing room after that. I thought it was a really good performance from the start, getting the early goal and then we had some clear-cut opportunities after that to go two, three up and then it would have been a really difficult game for Liverpool. We let them back into the game, they went 2-1 up but we showed great character to then get back into the game ourselves. For sure, we had the chances out there and, on another night, we would have put them away and won the game. It shows we’re moving in the right direction though and hopefully we can build on that in the games ahead.”
Mentality
When the lineups came out, it was evident that the Reds were there for the taking. Without Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, and Thiago Alcantara, the Reds were not at their full strength. On the other hand, our team looked like it was at full strength after tackling the Covid outbreak at Hotspur Way earlier this month.
Nevertheless, the fans would have been proud to see the fight from the team and how they overcame the obstacles that have been plaguing them this month. It shows how the winning mentality of Antonio Conte is seeping into the squad, and that gave us arguably our best performance of the season- at least in the first hour.

Our performances have gradually improved over the past few matches and we would hope that that is the case moving forward. Our fringe players also stepped up when needed, which shows how we are going on the right track.
While we are disappointed for not winning, we should use the performance to boost our morale and challenge for titles. Our match against West Ham United would be a perfect opportunity to showcase our intent to win trophies this season.
