Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte lauds Eric Dier and suggests where he needs to improve
Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has lauded Eric Dier while mentioning the areas that he needs to improve in going forward. The latter has had mixed success during his time at N17 but has looked solid following the change in position.
Dier was moved to the middle of a three at the back system when the Italian manager took the managerial role at Tottenham. He has instantly slotted into that role and appears to be a player reborn.
According to Daily Mail Online, Conte showered praises on the Englishman and conveyed that he could end up becoming one of the best in his positions. He added that the defender needs to improve in certain specific areas for that to happen.
“Eric Dier can become one of the best players in the world in that position. For sure he needs to work and continue to improve and understand the movement with the defensive line. He has to lead more, because in that position you have to speak a lot because you have to stay in the middle, at the back where you can see everything. He has a great space for improvement but we are talking about a really good player, strong physically with a good personality and good technically because he was a midfielder.”
Turnaround
Like the 52-year-old coach mentioned, there are areas where the England international needs to work on to become dominant as a centre-back. However, we have to give credit to the player for proving many of us wrong through his performances.
When the spurs boss initially arrived at N17, many of us believed that the 27-year-old would be one of those who would be one the way out. But he has shown grit and resilience and has impressed the manager earning a place in the starting lineup.
Following the injury to Cristian Romero, the England defender has stepped up and led the backline helping the team to crucial victories. Our defence has looked better, but we still have a long way to go before perfecting the defensive side of things.

We need the centre-back to keep improving by remaining on this trajectory to have a great end to the season. We still have the opportunity to earn silverware but, that ambition is not hollow as we have shown genuinely excellent displays recently.
