Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte thinks the Premier League managers’ meeting was a waste of time
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte believes the Premier League managers talked to a wall in the meeting as everything was already decided from the organizer’s side.
The Coronavirus has caused havoc in the Premier League with the sudden surge in cases. Amidst such a situation, many coaches are concerned about the health and fitness of their players and the families involved. The Premier League committee called a meeting this week where it was decided that the competition will go ahead as scheduled.
Nine Premier League games have already been postponed due to the surge in cases among the concerned teams. But, the managers were not convinced as many of them still had complaints about the hectic schedule. Amid such a situation, the Premier League again called a meeting with the managers to discuss the fixtures and covid related concerns.
Conte for one was left unimpressed and believes the crucial decisions were already taken and any further inputs from the managers fell on deaf ears.
The Italian manager revealed that solutions weren’t provided to the problems the managers brought up and that the Premier League representatives didn’t seem interested in taking any new steps.
“I have to be honest; I think that it was a meeting that… yeah, we tried to speak. Some coaches tried to speak to ask about solutions, but I think everything was decided and yesterday was a wall.”
When asked whether the meeting was a waste of time, the former Inter Milan manager agreed and suggested that the Premier League didn’t value their suggestions and discussions.
“I think so. Because as I said before, when you have a wall in front of you, you can speak or ask what you want. But every decision was [already] taken.”
Tottenham failed to play a single game in three weeks as three of their games were postponed. Conte suggested that their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea next month should be limited to just one leg only so as to gain a reprieve from the hectic schedule.
Tottenham fans were hoping to get a series of good results after the arrival of Conte. Even though the start has been good, the Italian manager’s work has been hampered by the Coronavirus. Hopefully, it does not undo the good work he has done so far.

The former Inter Milan manager placed many strict rules and physically challenging training modules to improve the players’ abilities and fitness
But as the training area was closed for several days due to the Covid surge, the available players were unable to train. Even though they are now back in training, Conte should be cautious in putting them through heavy work as their body might not be ready to take the load.
