Wales manager Robert Page wants Joe Rodon to leave Tottenham Hotspur

According to the Sun, Wales manager Robert Page believes that a move away from Tottenham Hotspur will benefit both Joe Rodon and the national team.

The Welsh ace’s move to Tottenham hasn’t been fruitful for the defender. Last season, the 24-year-old only played 14 matches across all competitions, and this season, he has had only six appearances, including only one in the Premier League. Furthermore, The Wales international has also had limited opportunities under new manager Antonio Conte.

Joe Rodon joined Spurs from Swansea in October 2020.

The lack of game time is evident, and Rodon’s national team manager believes it’s not good for the national team. Page has a good opinion of Rodon’s abilities and has suggested that the move to the Premier League was well earned.

“Joe is an unbelievable talent and rightly so got a move to a big Premier League club in Tottenham.”

However, the Wales manager also hinted that spending time on the bench will not serve the purposes of the national side. He also hinted that the player is aware that he might need to call it quits at Tottenham to secure regular playtime.

‘But now he understands he might have to move on and play games of football because we want our best players playing week in, week out.”

Joe Rodon could look to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window thanks to the lack of game time under current manager Antonio Conte.

Page revealed that when the national team players play in a highly competitive league, they compete with elite players, and the abilities gained from such experience could make the difference at the highest level.

“They are used to the standard and the movement of [Romelu] Lukaku or the physicality and demands that top-class football brings. That’s where we want our players.”

Antonio Conte has always favoured a three-person backline which includes three solid centre-backs. But the injury to Cristian Romero pushed the Italian manager to use left-back Ben Davies in the backline. Even in dire need of a central defender, he didn’t utilize Joe Rodon, which shows that the former Inter Milan manager might not have confidence in the Wales defender.

Amidst such a situation, it will be best for the player and for Tottenham to part ways. The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Newcastle United and Brighton. Fabio Paratici should negotiate a good deal that will help generate funds to attract quality reinforcements as Spurs look to rebuild their side.

The central defence should be a priority for the Tottenham board as the North London team currently lacks the required depth in the position. Davinson Sánchez hasn’t lived up to the expectations while at the same time, Japhet Tanganga remains a mediocre choice.
