Leeds United re-enter transfer race for Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez amid Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United interest

According to Ciclo Deportivo [Sports Magazine] (h/t The Shields Gazette), Leeds United re-entered the transfer race for signing the Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. He had played a crucial role in ensuring the survival of his team in Serie A last year and has faced a similar task at hand this time around.

The three English clubs are keen on getting the services of Nandez and are ready to battle each other ahead of the January transfer window. He could have a better chance of excelling elsewhere, looking at the current situation of the Italian club.

The Serie A side is in the relegation zone and has struggled to better what they did last year. If their form doesn’t improve, they are bound to get relegated to the second division in Italy and would have an adverse financial impact as a result.

Nahitan Nandez to Leeds, Spurs or West Ham?

It remains to be seen where the 26-year-old would end up as all the three interested parties arguably have a better project than his current team. Spurs offer the promise of winning silverware with Antonio Conte now at the helm, but the guarantee of minutes could depend on various factors.

A week ago, it was mentioned that the Uruguayan wants to move elsewhere in search of a better environment. The midfielder has a release clause worth €36million, but it is unlikely that the fee would be met due to being expensive.

Since moving to Sardi in 2019, he has made 88 appearances and has scored four goals while assisting nine times in the process. In this campaign, he is one of the very few bright sparks in his team, which could give us an insight into why he may want to leave.

There may be concerns about his quality among some of the fans, which is understandable. But it is harsh to form a judgement of a player before we have seen him play for us- if that ever proves to be the case in the future.

Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are all vying for minutes from the sidelines as Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Harry Winks are finding favour with the former Inter Milan manager, Conte. Hence, it remains to be seen what plan we have for Nandez if he does join us, considering we already have a load of players in that position.

Time will paint a clear picture of how this situation will develop in the coming days. The transfer window is just up ahead, and we would be smart to take a quick decision if we do not want him to go to the other Premier League clubs.
