Tanguy Ndombele keen to show his worth as Tottenham Hotspur contemplate recouping their investment
According to Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have accepted that they could have to take a big loss on Tanguy Ndombele who continues to struggle in North London.
The player, however, appears to have other ideas and is determined to bounce back from his lacklustre showing against Morecambe. Offered the chance to start the FA Cup tie, the Frenchman was unable to make the most of his opportunity and cut a lacklustre figure on the field.
Ndombele was subbed off when his team was trailing 1-0 on the day. His decision to go straight down the tunnel to the dressing room did not appease the home crowd watching on. A flurry of late substitutions thankfully inspired Spurs to a 3-1 win on the night.
Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for Ndombele but, they know that any move will be difficult considering the current circumstances. He is currently earning a salary of £200,000-a-week and has a contract at the club until 2025. Having resigned to the fact that they cannot recoup the club-record £55million they paid to secure his services, the club is looking at ways to cut costs.
Despite Tottenham’s stance, the Frenchman is adamant that he is happy with life at N17 and wants to fight for his place under Antonio Conte. However, the midfielder has acknowledged that he could be on the way out in the transfer window.
End of the road?
Ndombele has received his fair share of chances and his reaction at being subbed off appears to have been the final straw. The fans did jeer him but he has to take criticism on the chin, especially when he was privy to a lacklustre performance.
Sure, the France international was disappointed with his performance, but whatever the case may be, the team should come first. It is pretty damning when your own teammates urge you to get off the pitch quick.
Conte was not critical about the Spurs star’s performance, instead, he suggested that this is a part of football. Could that mean he still has hopes for the underperforming midfielder? Well, we cannot say for sure, but with more matches to come this month, we can get a better idea.

Looking at the French midfielder’s wages, we could find it troublesome to get offers even if he is made available in the market. A loan deal may sound appealing, but there exists the possibility that we might have to foot a part of the wages.
Whether we can get the Tottenham ace off the wage bill remains to be seen. We cannot afford to keep underperforming players at the club for too long, meaning the board have to support the boss by clearing out mediocrity and bringing in quality signings to achieve our ambitions for the season.
Ndombele has had his chances, whether his legacy at Spurs will end as a transfer bust remains to be seen.
