Transfer News: Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele set to reject attempts from Tottenham Hotspur
According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Football.London), Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is expected to reject attempts from Tottenham Hotspur after he expressed his latest decision over a renewal to Xavi Hernandez. Uncertainty has surrounded the forward’s future at Camp Nou as a result of his contract situation.
Dembele will become a free agent next summer if he does not end up signing an extension in the coming months. He is legally able to reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Spain this month if he has made up his mind to move elsewhere.
However, the Frenchman engaged in fresh talks with Xavi on Tuesday, where he conveyed his desire to sign a new deal to extend his stay with them. That means he would refute offers from Tottenham, who have registered their interest in signing him. Arsenal are keeping tabs on the situation, and are now in the same boat after this update.
Dembele to Spurs- no chance?
The Barca boss has confirmed the conversation he had with the 24-year-old but mentioned his doubts over what has unravelled surrounding this situation. The former Spain international conveyed that he is confused by the difference between the attacker’s words and that of his agent.
The Blaugrana manager has questioned why the France international does not want to sign a new deal this instant if he wants to stay with them moving forward. What he said definitely poses some interesting thoughts in our minds, and the winger’s actions are certainly baffling to many.
His agent, Moussa Sissoko, openly lashed out at the Catalan club recently regarding the player’s situation at the club and how a new contract is yet to be discussed. Nevertheless, if the French winger does not move to N17, it would certainly be a blow for us.
We are devoid of attacking options when it comes to the flanks. While there are options such as Bryan Gil and Jack Clarke, both of them are very young and still inexperienced on the big stage. Son Heung-min’s position down the left flank is basically unchallenged, while Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have both recently featured in central attacking roles under Antonio Conte.
There would still be hope that the club signs the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace and until official confirmation arrives regarding his contract at Camp Nou, nothing can be guaranteed. At 24, he still has a few years to go before he reaches his prime years.

The French attacker can play on both sides of the pitch with ease and those who watch would attest to the fact that he is a talented runner with the ball, who is quick off the blocks and can play with both his feet. Let’s hope that we receive a favourable outcome regarding his future in the coming months.
If he doesn’t renew his deal at Barca, then signing him as a free agent in the summer would be a good scenario for many of the top clubs- including Spurs.
