Transfer News: Sevilla express interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso
According to Football.London, Sevilla have registered their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso ahead of a potential transfer this month. Uncertainty surrounds his future at Spurs after he was left out of the squad against Chelsea.
Tottenham lost 2-0 on the night as he joined Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndomeble among the list of players who were axed by Antonio Conte from the matchday squad. The Lilywhites looked bereft of ideas on the night and could have used someone with Lo Celso’s skill set on the field.
The situation was made worse when Conte called up Harvey White from the academy ahead of the Argentinian, giving us an idea about the latter’s standing at the club. David Ornstein of The Athletic (Subscription Required) claims Spurs are looking to facilitate a swap deal for the outcast in the winter transfer window.
Potential move on the cards?
Even though there is a lack of concise confirmation about the player’s fate, joining the dots could give us an idea about the club’s intentions regarding the 25-year-old. So the interest from the Spanish giants is good news if we are serious about selling Lo Celso this month.
It remains unclear if the Andalusian sides are seeking a loan move or a permanent transfer. Spurs will benefit from the latter should Lo Celso have no place in Antonio Conte’s rebuild.
The North London club prefers a swap deal which is understandable as they do not want to lose their squad depth by moving out the Argentine international. However, we do not know if Julen Lopetegui’s side would be open to selling any of their players, especially considering how they are mounting a title challenge in Spain.
The lack of time has put us in a difficult position since we may not have enough time to clear out and bring in players unless it is a transfer involving player exchange. However, we had finalised a similar deal in the past with Sevillistas when we signed Bryan Gil in exchange for Erik Lamela. Whether a revisit is on the cards remains to be seen.

The Spurs central midfielder previously played for Real Betis before we brought him to England. Sevilla and Betis are arch-rivals and he may not be interested in a move as it could leave a bad impression at his previous club. Only time will give us an accurate answer on what is to come before the winter market closes down.
