Tottenham Hotspur put loan bid for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata amidst Barcelona interest

According to Spanish media outlet COPE (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have put in a loan bid for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata amidst interest from Barcelona. He is currently playing at Juventus temporarily, where he has had a mixed time overall.

Newcastle United have made an offer alongside Tottenham as they try to prepare themselves for the relegation battle up ahead for the rest of the season. Barca are also lining up the possibilities of a permanent move, but that would not be a hindrance to any of the loan attempts from the Premier League clubs.

Atletico are listening to proposals from clubs for the Spaniard, so a transfer could be on the cards this month. Juve have recently closed a deal for Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina, so there is an additional striker for the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid striker to compete with at the Allianz Stadium

Can we pull this off?

It is understandable if there are mixed reactions surrounding our attempt to sign the 29-year-old. The forward had an underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge and often struggled to find his footing in the Premier League. But it’s not like we are going for a long-term transfer with him.

The Atleti loanee has played for bitter rivals Real Madrid, and he is now a transfer target for the Blaugrana club as well. There is surely something about the Spain international that keeps attracting the eyes of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Morata is decent in front of goal but more than that, his ability to link up play and bring others into the attack is something that makes him a potent centre-forward. Having him on a short term basis would be smart for that reason, especially when we have no secondary options for Kane.

We can, of course, stick him up top with Kane as well if and when required. Morata can also play the role Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius Jr played before exiting N17, but the possibilities are endless if we actually manage to get him in this month.

It’s not illogical to think that we can steal a march on Morata’s potential suitors. Newcastle are currently battling relegation while Barcelona are Atletico’s direct rivals for domestic trophies in Spain.

Moreover, Antonio Conte has experience working with him during their time together at Chelsea. It is now up to Fabio Partici to get his done as quickly as possible so that we do not lose out on a potentially important target.
