Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele sees potential PSG move break down before the end of the January transfer window

According to French media outlet TF1 (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele will not move to Paris Saint Germain this month, after the Ligue 1 side were unable to free up space in their squad by selling a midfielder.

Ndombele has been a thoroughly underwhelming purchase for Tottenham, failing to win over multiple managers and struggling to establish himself in the first team. His performances have been inconsistent since he arrived from Lyon in the summer of 2019 and looked destined to move away from Spurs during the current winter transfer window.

However, after failing to get rid of their stars in recent weeks, PSG are said to have no space to accommodate Ndombele in their midfield. The French side were keen to sell Leandro Paredes, Julian Draxler, and Ander Herrera this month but have been unsuccessful in their attempts to do so.

Ndombele has been one of the most disappointing signings amongst Spurs’ more recent transfer dealings, and the fans made their feelings for him known this month. In a home FA Cup tie against Morecambe, the Frenchman was booed off and has not featured for Antonio Conte‘s side since.

No way out

Apart from the fans turning against him, Ndombele has also seen game time suffer due to his performances on the pitch, with manager Conte preferring the more reliable Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, and Oliver Skipp in place of the France international.

With all these factors against him at Spurs, it appeared that the midfielder would depart the club during the winter transfer window, even if only temporarily on a loan deal. PSG was set to be his destination in January, with financial issues not being a stumbling block in a potential deal for the cash-rich French club.

Paris Saint-Germain hit a roadblock in pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur star Tanguy Ndombele.

Ndombele was a revelation whilst at Lyon, which sparked a lot of interest from major clubs. The midfielder proved he was a valuable asset to own, especially after holding his own in a few Champions League appearances for the French outfit.

Mauricio Pochettino brought the 25-year-old to north London, and in recent weeks, the Argentine was interested in reuniting with Ndombele at PSG, his current employers. However, the potential reunion now stands scuppered after the Ligue 1 juggernauts could not make space for the midfielder to join them for the rest of the season.

Ndombele could now look to be staying at Spurs till the end of the campaign if no other club makes a late punt to land him this month. He could bide his time on the sidelines or decide to fight for his place and help his side climb up the Premier League table.

The club currently sits outside the Champions League qualification places and will need all the help they can get to finish the season strongly. For Ndombele, it could prove to be a chance to win the fans over and prove his critics wrong.
