The latest Tottenham Hotspur team news ahead of FA Cup clash vs Brighton

According to Alasdair Gold, the club’s correspondent for Football.London (h/t Twitter), the latest team news for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their match against Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round, has been released. This match would provide Antonio Conte and his side with their last opportunity to secure silverware this season.

Spurs have a couple of injury concerns leading up to tomorrow’s cup tie. However, they are also boosted by some players returning from injury and the January signings who will be in contention to feature. Conte gave the update himself regarding the availability of all these players.

Japhet Tanganga has a knee issue, which will rule him out for tomorrow. On the other hand, Oliver Skipp will be on the stands due to a groin injury, which is a major miss for Tottenham. He has been crucial for the Italian boss so, this setback would deal a blow for him.

Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur are both cleared to play against Brighton and Hove Albion. That means both of them have got their work permit, but the 52-year-old coach mentioned that they would not start the match. Cristian Romero and Son Heung-Min have also recovered from their respective injuries and would make it into the matchday squad.

Mixed feelings

The return of Romero would offset the injury to Tanganga, but there is a chance that we may not see him from the start. The manager could think that he should take it slow by integrating the Argentine slowly into the team. Hence, it remains to be seen how our backline will be structured tomorrow.

Similarly, the availability of Bentancur covers the setback suffered by Skipp, but there is still a cause of concern. We are very light in the midfield department, leaving us with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks as the other options. It remains to be seen for how long the 21-year-old would be out of contention.

Son and Kulusevski add to the quality and depth in the wide areas as there was a lack of adequate options before the winter transfer window. The latter would probably play on the right side, which means that we can shift Steven Bergwijn to the left-hand side. That gives us four solid options in total on both sides, which is a lot better than how things were before last month.
