Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur handed new Franck Kessie hope despite Barcelona update

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have been handed fresh hope regarding the potential transfer of Franck Kessie despite the latest update from Barcelona. He is in line to leave AC Milan at the end of this season due to his current contract situation.

Kessie will be in contention to leave on a free transfer at the end of this campaign. Naturally, he could legally sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Italy. Both Tottenham and Barca would certainly take note of this situation as they look to get their hands on the African midfield general.

The Ivorian could leave San Siro as a free agent, with the Blaugrana side having being in contact with him since December. However, he has not taken a firm stance over his future just yet, and all the interested parties have a chance to sign him next summer. Manchester United are also in the mix in what would be an added headache for Spurs.

Can Spurs sign Kessie?

Stefano Pioli, the Milan manager, wants the 25-year-old to stay with them, although the latter has stopped contract negotiations and is likely to depart this summer. And that is something that our fans would be glad to hear, considering our club’s interest in the ex-Atalanta man.

Fabio Paratici is said to be an admirer of the defensive midfielder and will target him at the end of this season. While Rodrigo Bentancur joined us from Juventus in January, we could still require more quality reinforcements to boost our squad for next season.

Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso would also be returning from their loan spells in the summer. But it remains to be seen if they can find their way into Conte’s good books by then. The ex-Inter Milan and Chelsea manager’s decision to loan them mid-season tells a lot about his views on the midfield duo.

It will be interesting to see the Ivory Coast international’s choice regarding his next destination in the months to come. Serie A is a league that both Paratici and Conte know well and hopefully, Kessie becomes another one of their stars to link up at N17 before the start of next season.

Those who have watched Kessie play would attest to the claim that the Ivorian is a solid defensive midfielder who is not too shabby in possession as well. Alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, he can provide a solid defensive base in front of our defence.

But for that, we would have to act fast and beat a number of clubs who would certainly be enticed by the prospect of signing him on a free transfer.
