Dejan Kulusevksi opens up on life under Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte

In an interview on Sky Italia (h/t Daily Mail), Tottenham Hotspur attacker Dejan Kulusevski spoke about playing under Antonio Conte and opened up about the last few months with Juventus before coming to Hotspur Way on a loan deal.

The Lilywhites failed to secure quite a few of their priority targets in January but saved some face by managing to get the Bianconerri duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Kulusevski on a deadline day deal in January. Spurs saw more outgoings than incomings with Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, and Bryan Gil leaving N17 on loan whilst Dele Alli was shipped out permanently to Everton.

While a few questions could be raised about their business in the last transfer window after three back-to-back league losses, the North Londoners rose up to the occasion to beat current leaders and defending Premier League champions Manchester City. The Swedish ace opened the deadlock in the fourth minute and played a crucial role in helping get Spurs over the line with a beautiful cross that was headed in by Harry Kane towards the end of added time.

In an interview with Sky Italia (h/t Daily Mail), the 21-year-old spoke about his time with the Italian club. He also highlighted the pleasure of working under Antonio Conte and shed light on the excitement of playing in the PL:

‘I suffered so much over the last few months, I didn’t feel like myself and playing like this with my first Premier League start, I cannot describe it. I needed to stay calm and play without too many thoughts in my head. We scored so early, it was great, you don’t have to think anymore, you can just play.”

“It’s wonderful, because Conte only wants to win and if he doesn’t win, he is not happy. We work really hard and that is what we need, there are no other secrets. You have to work hard and listen to the coach. If you listen to him, you can do well.’

Dejan Kulusevski and settling at Tottenham Hotspur

Despite his recent struggles with the Turin-based club, the Swedish youngster put in a glorious performance against the Citizens showing that he might be ready to put all of those issues behind him now while trying to make a sustainable impact at his new club.

The youngster announced his arrival in style and may have adapted much quicker than some might have thought. He looked dangerous throughout the night and at 21, still has a long time left before he reaches his peak.

With a crucial victory at the Etihad, Spurs would now be looking to gain a top-four finish as a realistic benchmark but could prove to be a tough battle, especially towards the later stages of the season. Qualification for the UEFA Champions League next season could bring a renewed sense of vigour and enthusiasm, especially after the North London club had an early exit from the UEFA Conference League this campaign.

The Italian manager is thought to have great pull and is also believed to be a key part in luring Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur to join the Lilywhites this season. There would be a renewed sense of enthusiasm after an enthralling victory against the Citizens and the Spurs faithful would be hoping that Kulusesvski could continue in this vein of form until the end of the season.
