Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez’s agent provides transfer blow to Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to FCInter190, via Teamtalk (h/t football.london), Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez‘s agent Alejandro Camano has put a dent in Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer hopes for the player after saying the forward is happy in Italy.
The Inter Milan man was crucial in last season’s Serie A title win for the club, with his goals proving to be the difference as the Nerazzurri won their first league trophy in 11 years. Together with Romelu Lukaku, the pair ran riot against opposition defences to fire the Italian side to the title.
These performances caught the eye of Tottenham, who have taken an interest in the striker for the summer. However, the player’s agent has declared that Martinez is happy at Inter, throwing a spanner into Spurs’ transfer plans.
“Lautaro wants Inter to win – he is not interested in personal success. We must remain calm because Lautaro is happy at Inter and is happy with Inter fans.”
Spurs have been struggling for goals this season, and the expectation was that the club would address this lack of firepower in the summer by targetting quality strikers to fix the problem. Martinez was an ideal option, but it no longer looks like the case based on what his agent has said.
“Only thinks about Inter”
Currently, the Lilywhites only have Harry Kane as a natural number 9 in the squad, with the Englishman tasked to do the job all on his own. We neither have a backup striker in the side to support Kane, nor did the club sign anyone in the January transfer window to help him out.
Martinez would have been a wonderful addition to the Spurs side, but his agent has quashed all rumours by expressing how happy the player is at his current club. It remains to be seen if Tottenham will pursue the Argentine in the summer after these comments.
“Lautaro doesn’t think about himself, he only thinks about Inter. He wants to help and wants fans to be happy. Inter haven’t scored many goals lately, but it’s just a process and will return to scoring, that’s for sure.”
There is no doubt that Tottenham would have been an attractive option for the player, given how good he has been with a strike partner in Italy. He has proved this with Lukaku last season and Edin Dzeko this campaign, and there is little doubt about how good he could have been alongside Kane in north London.
To add to this, the 24-year-old would have once again had the chance to play under manager Antonio Conte at Spurs. The Italian was the one who helped Inter win the Scudetto last season, and Martinez flourished under the head coach. There is not much to prove that he cannot do the same under Conte in England.

His agent’s comments have suggested that the player will remain in Milan for the time being, but Spurs will do well to try and convince him to swap Italy for England in the summer if they come up with an attractive offer for both the striker and club.
Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici is also keen on signing the Argentina international, but only time will tell if we manage to prise him away from Inter at the end of the season. Till then, we can dream of a Kane and Martinez strike partnership and hope that it materialises.
