Transfer News: Liverpool enter race to sign Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Wilfried Singo
According to CBS (h/t Football.London), Liverpool have entered the race to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur target Wilfried Singo ahead of the summer transfer window. He has done really well during his time at Torino so far and could be ready to make the jump to another level in his career.
Singo has a contract with the Italian side until 2023, which makes him a great prospect to be signed after this season. Arsenal are interested in signing him as well, alongside Tottenham and the Reds. Supposedly, the two North London clubs have sent scouts on “countless occasions” as both of them are looking to bring in a right-back.
Moreover, it is claimed that the 21-year-old would be sold next summer if any of the interested parties are willing to pay £15million in transfer fees. That could potentially pave the way for a transfer battle between the three Premier League clubs.
Necessary signing?
Considering how Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have struggled to get going under Antonio Conte, we could end up seeing the signing of a right wing-back in the summer transfer window. After all, wingbacks are crucial to Conte’s style of play.
Emerson has failed to showcase the offensive attributes that he had shown during his days at Real Betis. He did well in Spain but has failed to replicate that quality so far with us. Perhaps, it is too early to judge him but for a club that is looking to break a 14-year-long trophy drought, patience wears thin.
Doherty, on the other hand, has been a disappointment since joining us from Wolverhampton Wanderers. That being said, he has shown improvements in his displays recently but it remains to be seen if the Irishman has what it takes to convince Conte that he is the ideal player to man the right flank for us regularly.
However, we need to be wary of the entry from Jurgen Klopp’s side as they are simply a better project than us right now. We had first-hand experience about that when they stole Luis Diaz away from us in the January transfer window. Singo could be an opportunity to get one back on them as well.

It remains to be seen how the pursuit in securing the services of the Ivorian would pan out in the coming months. There is not a lot to suggest that he can be an instant upgrade on the options we already have, but if the club- and especially Conte- think he is a player worth pursuing, then fans would perhaps be on board with it as well.
Then again, it is still early days and only time will tell if we can get a deal across the line for him in the near future.
