Antonio Conte provides Tottenham Hotspur injury update ahead of Everton clash

Antonio Conte has provided the latest injury update on the Tottenham Hotspur squad as they face off against Everton on Monday. His side will host the Premier League fixture as they will look to gain a foothold in the race to top four places in the table.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Moura will return to the squad after the duo had missed the previous two matches. Bentancur had sustained an ankle injury against Burnley, whereas Moura suffered a blow in a training session in the build-up to the Leeds United clash. Their return would give Tottenham a much-needed boost since their depth has been thinned with the recent injuries.

Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Football.London), Conte has confirmed the matter, but he also gave an alarming update on Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga. Both of them have been out of contention for quite a while, and they will once again be on the sidelines, having failed to recover from their respective groin and knee injuries.

“Bentancur is available and the same for Lucas Moura. Skipp and Tanganga still not available. He’s [Skipp] still not ready. Still having a problem with a groin pain. He’s fighting and he could recover before but maybe something was wrong and now we have to wait.”

Mixed feelings!

Bentancur’s return has given us a sigh of relief considering how tight we are in terms of the options available in midfield. Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are the only other choices at the moment, which certainly does not bode well for us in a long season. The winter signing would now assist us in rotations while protecting our interests in case of further injuries or suspensions.

Moura would definitely assist us since Dejan Kulusevski is our only other option in the right-wing position. Steven Bergwijn can play there, but he has not been at his best as he was against Leicester City in the incredible comeback, for example. Moreover, the 29-year-old would provide us with his immense work effort, which would undoubtedly help the Italian boss.

It is concerning, to say the least, how slow the rehabilitation process has been for Skipp and Tanganga. After all, we still have not recovered them, even though a month has passed since their respective setbacks. The details are still unknown at the moment, but we are hopeful that there are no relapses.

Despite these issues, we are favourites to win the game against the Toffees, which we must do at all costs. We need to go on a good run rather than the current inconsistent form if we hope to make it into the Champions League next season. Frank Lampard’s side have not clicked just yet, which we should take advantage of at all costs.

That being said, the embarrassing loss to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fifth round should tell us that we cannot take any team lightly. The players must show a reaction and support the boss if they want to build towards a better future.
