Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte blasts own team’s medical department
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Everton clash on Monday (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has criticised the club’s own medical department, saying they have it ‘too easy’.
Conte had many players injured for the previous game against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, which may likely have led to them losing to the Championship side and being knocked out of the cup competition after putting out a weakened squad.
Conte said that any questions related to his injured players should be directed at his medical team, who need to hold a press conference of their own to answer questions about players’ recoveries and expected timelines for their comebacks.
“You should have a conference with the medical department. It’s too easy for the doctors to work here. They don’t speak and they don’t explain.”
The game against Boro saw the Italian put out a midfield pair of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks, who were the only fit and available midfielders in the club as other stars were out injured.
“Too easy”
In better news against Everton on Monday, the Tottenham boss will welcome back Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Moura to beef up their midfield and attack, but are still without defenders Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga.
Despite a positive injury update, Conte said that speaking to the medical staff is always a hassle, as they could give a good update about injured players on one day and turn around on their word within two weeks, saying it was too easy for the club’s medical department.
“It could be good one day and then in two weeks to have a press conference with the medical department to explain about this situation with the players, about the situation that they are trying to take care of the players. It’s too easy for the medical department.”
Conte is already dealing with having to reel in his side’s wildly incosistent form this season, and an added issue in players being unavailable due to injuries does him no good. There are some positives on injuries for the Toffees’ visit, and the Italian will hope for more in coming weeks.
Bentancur had only joined in January in the winter transfer window, but the player already had a considerable injury layoff after slipping on the wet turf at Turf Moor against Burnley a couple of weeks ago – a match that Spurs went on to lose.

The ex-Chelsea manager’s anger aimed at his medical team can be understood, given that he is missing key players during critical periods of the season which has seen his side fail to maintain consistency and form. However, the medical team may not be completely at fault, given that they are always doing their best to get players quickly back onto the pitch.
We can probably chalk off this weird rant aimed at his own staff as a sign of frustration given his side’s recent results and hope that we bounce back strongly against Everton at home. Regular wins are important for our quest to climb up the league table, and it needs to start on Monday.
