Tottenham Hotspur given transfer boost as Stuttgart star Borna Sosa ‘desperate to play in England’
Speaking to Germanijak (h/t Express), Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa talked about his ‘great desire’ to play in the Premier League in the future in a massive transfer boost for Tottenham Hotspur, who are interested in the player.
Despite being at Stuttgart since the 2018/19 season, it was only last year that the 24-year-old Croatian earned plaudits for his performances after an injury-ravaged start to life in Germany. This has seen him be linked to Spurs, who are chasing a defensive target.
Sosa declared his intention to leave the Bundesliga club soon, saying that the club has agreed to find the best solution for both parties, hinting that a summer move may be on the cards.
“I have a good relationship with the club and we agreed to find the best solution together. But I am still in Stuttgart, we will see in the summer what will happen.”
Tottenham are not the only club chasing his signature though, facing competition from rival London clubs in Chelsea and Arsenal. For a player that wants to move to the PL, this augurs well for Sosa.
“Great desire”
Supremely effective in a system with three centre-backs, the left wing-back contributes in both attack and defence as he bombs up and down the flank to help his team out. Despite Stuttgart battling relegation this season, Sosa has remained impressive on the left side.
The Croatia international dropped hints about wanting a move to England, speaking about his desire to play in the Premier League. He also mentioned that he was close to a move to the top-flight in January, but he ended up remaining in Germany.
“Definitely, I have a great desire to play in the Premier League. I can also tell you that I was very, very close to going to the Premier League in the winter transfer window.”
For a player that came close to moving to the Premier League in the winter transfer window, he may soon see his dream come true in the summer if the London clubs linked to him actively pursue him at the end of the season.
Tottenham, specifically, could do with a player like Sosa, given how poor the team have been this term. Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon have not proven themselves to be undroppable, with both players having their moments and then waning in their displays without warning. The Spaniard’s recent injury issues have also not helped us in that regard.

If Stuttgart end up getting relegated this summer, then perhaps the path to signing Sosa may open up a bit more. Only time will tell if the Bundesliga club escapes the drop with the left-back helping them out in the remaining months.
For a team like Spurs that play with wing-backs under manager Antonio Conte, Sosa could fit in like a glove. Sessegnon is still young and can do with more experience before he pins down a spot down that flank while Ben Davies continues to be used more centrally in defence under the ex-Inter Milan boss.
