Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold provides latest update on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium naming rights deal

Responding to a fan’s query on the Tottenham Hotspur Q&A on football.london with Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold, the journalist gave an update on the naming rights for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The stadium was opened in 2019 as Spurs’ new home after spending years at White Hart Lane, which got the perfect farewell from the team as it witnessed an exciting 2-1 win over Manchester United in the final game to be played at the iconic London venue.

When asked about any updates on the naming rights of the new stadium, Gold said that despite various discussions held within the club, they are still waiting for the best possible deal from a partner they can enter into a long-term commitment with.

“From what I can gather there has been various discussions over naming rights but Spurs want to get the best possible deal for a stadium which is one of the world’s best and they’re looking for a long-term commitment.”

For one season before moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites used Wembley Stadium as their temporary home as they waited for their new venue to finish construction and enter the history of the .

“Almost three years”

The team will welcome Everton to their most recent home ground later tonight in an important Premier League fixture, as we look to gain a win and climb up the league table in order to secure a top-four finish by the summer.

Gold, however, did not have any positive news to give about any naming rights deal, saying that it does not seem like anything will happen on that front anytime soon. The project is under the stewardship of Todd Kline, who only joined the club last year.

“It doesn’t appear as if anything is close right now but the club have certainly spoken to various interested parties over the years and continue to do so. It’s under the remit of chief financial officer Todd Kline, who joined Spurs last year and has experience of putting together such deals.”

Alasdair Gold said there has been no recent updates on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium's naming rights.

Gold also said that if the club could somehow get a deal sorted before the end of the season, then we may likely get a boost for our transfer funds ahead of the new campaign. Given that we saw four exits and only two new faces in the winter transfer window, the summer is a crucial time to build our squad up with quality signings.

We have gone trophyless this season as well, seeing our FA Cup hopes also go up in smoke as we were knocked out of the competition by Middlesbrough, who play in the Championship. Hopefully, we end the rest of the Premier League campaign strongly to salvage some pride this year.

Tonight’s game against the Toffees will see us head back to our home stadium after weeks of being away, given that our last home game was a 1-0 loss against Wolves nearly a full month back. This time around though, we can hope that the result is different.

Spurs will be eager to see their team back in action in north London, and we can hope to see a near-capacity crowd cheer our team on to a win. Our previous PL result was a 4-0 win against Leeds United, and we need to build on that result.
