Manchester United enter the race for Middlesbrough star Isaiah Jones amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest

According to 90min (h/t The Sun), Manchester United have entered the race to finalise a move for Middlesbrough starlet Isaiah Jones amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window. He has been sensational for the Riverside club this season and is arguably among the top talents in the Championship at this moment in time.

Jones prompted Tottenham into “asking to be kept informed” after he helped Boro knock them out of the FA Cup in the fifth round. Man United are monitoring the situation and are willing to battle it out with their rivals to secure his services. However, a transfer could be out of the cards since Chris Wilder’s side are under no pressure to part ways with the defender.

The 22-year-old’s excellent displays earned him rave reviews this campaign and several clubs have expressed their interest to sign him as a result. West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Atletico Madrid, Ajax and RB Leipzig are keeping tabs on the right wing-back to make their case ahead of the summer transfer window.

Who is Isaiah Jones?

The Englishman rose through Boro’s academy over the years and has been a revelation since achieving promotion to the first team this term. Primarily a right-wingback, he can also play on the opposite end of the pitch and can be used on both wings as well. He is also versatile enough to play as a striker or an attacking midfielder in a worst-case scenario.

The Boro prospect has made 36 appearances this season and has scored once while also making nine assists across all competitions. He is a defensive powerhouse thanks to his work ethic plus the knack to win the ball from his opponents.

More importantly, it is the renowned dribbling skills alongside the technical abilities required to break opposition lines as a wingback that has earned him rave praises. His assists tally showcases that and he would undoubtedly be a fine addition for any team.

It is good to know that we have already made our case with Wilder’s team should they decide to sell the English defender. However, that seems not to be the case right now as they would rather part ways with Djed Spence, who is out on loan at Nottingham Forest. We have shown an interest in Spence alongside North London rivals Arsenal.

If we have to choose between Spence, who has impressed Forest as well, and Jones, the latter should be the way to go. The board must sign the better choice at all costs to back Antonio Conte next summer. It would be challenging due to the Championship side’s stance and the interest from the Red Devils and other parties.

However, our right wing-back situation is not that great at the moment as Emerson Royal has failed to adapt to the Premier League. Matt Doherty has shown some fight recently, but his current displays may not be enough if we hope to build towards a better future. It remains to be seen how this situation would pan out in the coming months ahead of next season.
