Bayern Munich set to hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur target Djed Spence this month

According to Florian Plettenberg, reporter of Sky Sports Germany on Twitter, Bayern Munich are set to hold talks with Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, who is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, this month. The defender is currently playing on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he has excelled so far.

Bayern Munchen have retained their interest in Spence alongside Tottenham ahead of the summer transfer window. The German side are plotting to engage in discussions with him this March to push ahead for a move after this season. They would have to pay between €10million and €15million to get their hands on the fullback.

Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also added the 21-year-old to their shortlist ahead of the next campaign. The Boro loanee has also attracted attention from five other top Premier League clubs and two unknown La Liga sides. With this many teams interested in his services, a potential bidding war could unravel at the end of this term.

Stern challenge awaits

Spurs need to be at their best in the remainder of this season if they hope to prise the Englishman away before others. With eleven other clubs battling it out to secure his signature, we would really need to pull off a coup to finalise a transfer for him after this season.

The valuation that is set seems reasonable at this point, but we should try to put the matter to bed as early as possible to prevent the scenario of inflation. An early agreement seems to be in the Championship ace’s plans as well since he wants to decide over his future by April or May.

Hence, if the North London side are actively vying to bring him to N17, it is imperative that we retaliate at this moment with Bayern set to hold negotiations over a move. Not to mention, we also need to anticipate a response from the other interested parties and prepare for a worst-case scenario.

The right wing-back is an area where we need to strengthen, considering how Emerson Royal has disappointed since joining us last summer. Matt Doherty has taken advantage of that opportunity by leapfrogging Emerson in the past few games. Doherty has dropped some solid performances, with the most recent being the one against Everton.

We must be able to back Antonio Conte next summer if there are ambitions to challenge for trophies. Spence can be helpful, and he seems ready to step up to the English top-flight, having impressed in the FA Cup against Arsenal and Leicester City. Only time will tell us where he will end up playing next season.
