Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Wesley Fofana signs new contract with Leicester City
According to The Sun, Wesley Fofana, who was a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, has signed a new contract with Leicester City. His side have pulled off a great move, considering the amount of attention the defender had attracted following his excellent performances for them last season.
Fofana has been out of contention since the start of this term, having suffered a leg break and ligament damage in a pre-season friendly against Valencia. That has not stopped clubs from keeping tabs on him as he helped Leicester to a FA Cup title and a good finish in the Premier League last campaign.
However, their interests have come to an end with this latest update. The 21-year-old defender has extended his current deal until 2027, making him one of the highest earners in the squad with a wage package of around £120,000-a-week. Tottenham’s pursuit to secure his services have been dealt a blow due to this setback.
Damning blow
We could have used someone like the Frenchman in our team, considering the defensive troubles that have affected us this term. We have struggled to shut down opponents even with the likes of Cristiano Romero and Eric Dier in our squad. That could be because of the lack of adequate options for Antonio Conte to get the best out of the three-at-the-back system.
After all, Ben Davies is not a natural centre-back and needs to be replaced even if he has been solid overall. Davinson Sanchez has improved under Conte, but mistakes are still a part of his game. Japhet Tanganga has been struggling with his fitness and could be deemed dispensable as well.
Finally, Joe Rodon has been cast aside by the former Inter Milan boss, and there seems no way back for the defender. Hence, Fofana could have been helpful looking at the level of performances he dropped last season. One could argue that his injury has played a major role in the Foxes’ struggles throughout this campaign.

That is a fair point to make since the Leicester City centre-back was a regular for them even at a young age before the horror injury. That is further backed by the interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool. However, all the clubs in the race have been dealt a blow due to his renewal.
It is really tough to take in the fact that we lost out on another one of our transfer targets following the failures we had in January. However, we cannot afford to dwell on what had happened for too long as Fabio Paratici must look elsewhere to back the man in charge. It remains to be seen how the North London side would respond in the coming months ahead of next summer.
