AS Roma ready to sell Jordan Veretout next summer amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to the Italian publication Roma Today [Print Edition] (h/t BirminghamLive), AS Roma are ready to sell Jordan Veretout amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window. The player has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho as his minutes have diminished over the past few months or so.
Tottenham have expressed an interest to add Veretout to their squad, with Antonio Conte being a keen admirer of the Frenchman. There is a desperate need for additions in the midfield due to the lack of adequate depth to last the entirety of a season. They could formally approach Roma next summer as a result of their intentions.
The Serie A club are open to parting ways with the 29-year-old if their valuation of £21million is met. Spurs’ stance on the price tag is unknown at this stage, but they would need to decide quickly enough since Newcastle United have also added him to their transfer shortlist.
Veretout to Tottenham?
The Frenchman has done really well for Roma despite the diminished role under Mourinho in recent times. After all, he has scored four times and made nine assists this season from 35 appearances across all competitions. He could be a solid option to add to our squad for next season, considering his skill set.
The departures of Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in the January transfer window has left us shorthanded at times since then. We were forced into a bit of a tight spot when Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp picked up injuries leaving us with just Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as central midfield options.
We could see Ndombele and Lo Celso returning from their respective loan spells at the end of this term if their buy options are not activated. However, it is difficult to say that they would have a future with us, having failed to earn a spot during their time under Conte.

Veretout can be of help in such a case, but his asking price seems to be a bit expensive considering how I Giallorossi had signed him for €18million from Fiorentina. It is difficult to see how they can demand a raised price when he has fallen out of favour recently. Plus, it’s not like he has many years left in his playing career either.
If we can negotiate a lower amount and beat Newcastle in the process, signing the Roma ace would be a great prospect for us. Whether that will happen or not would only be known in due time as we near the end of this campaign.
