Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur ready to accept bids for Emerson Royal next summer
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are willing to listen to offers for Emerson Royal ahead of the summer transfer window. The right wing-back has failed to showcase the same promise he had shown at Real Betis and Barcelona since moving to N17 last summer.
Tottenham had signed Emerson from Barcelona for a fee of £26million the previous summer transfer window. However, he has struggled to get used to the Premier League and has not been able to showcase the attacking attributes that Antonio Conte wants from his wingbacks. Moreover, Matt Doherty has also leapfrogged him following the former’s solid performances over the last few fixtures.
As such, Spurs are already listening to proposals for the Brazilian despite him signing a five-year contract just at the start of this season. There is no information available about the clubs who have made their offers known, but it will be interesting to see how this situation would pan out in the coming months.
Spurs to admit transfer mistake?
The 23-year-old has been able to garner just an assist from the 30 appearances he made across all competitions. That is a disappointing output for someone who was among the best right-backs in La Liga during his time with Betis. After all, he did have five goals and ten assists to his name from the 79 matches he has played for them.
It is surprising to see how the former Barca man has failed to showcase even a hint of promise for us. One could question the North London side’s current transfer stance if they are planning to sell him after a year. They were the ones to sign him, to begin with, which makes this decision a bit of a surprise.
That being said, one could argue whether it is fair on the Premier League star since he has not had even a full season to adapt to the new surroundings. However, if Conte feels that the defender is not good enough, we would need to look at life past him.

If the club does end up going down that route, they must do their best to try and recoup the sum we paid for him. The Brazil international still has many years left in his bag, and taking that stance would suit all parties.
