Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane praises defender Matt Doherty for his role in Everton win

Speaking to Sky Sports after his side’s 5-0 win over Everton (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane was full of praise for his teammate Matt Doherty after the defender supplied the assists for Kane’s brace.

Spurs ran riot against a poor Everton side at home, racing to a 3-0 lead by half-time. Kane had a brilliant game himself, scoring in each half of the game to hand his team all three points against Frank Lampard’s men.

Although the Englishman was arguably the best player on the pitch, he was quick to praise Doherty for playing him in with an accurate pass as Kane buried the ball in the back of the net after finding himself one-on-one with Jordan Pickford.

“Great ball from Doughie (Doherty) there (to put) me one on one with the keeper and I’ll always back myself.”

While his first goal was a great finish past the Everton keeper, it was his second goal of the game that got Tottenham fans out of their seats as he hit a sublime volley on his weaker foot to score his team’s fifth and final goal of the night.

“Doughie played the ball perfectly”

The 5-0 rout of the Toffees at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the perfect response that the team gave after their previous game saw them knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough, ending their quest for a trophy this season.

Although he scored a great goal for his second one of the match, Kane credited Doherty for playing the ball perfectly to him and he said he was lucky to have it come off after he took a swing at it with his left boot.

“Doughie played the ball perfectly and it was one of them, coming over the shoulder, sometimes you take a swing at it and it comes off.”

The win against the Toffees puts Tottenham level on points with sixth-placed West Ham United and two short of Manchester United, who sit fifth in the Premier League table. To add to this, Spurs also have two games in hand over both these teams.

Their quest for a Champions League qualification spot is in full flow right now, with the team only one win away to catch up to Arsenal, who occupy fourth place in the league table. The Gunners, however, have played one game fewer as compared to us.

Given how close the top-four race this campaign has become, Saturday’s match against Man United is a must-win game for us if we have to maintain our current form in the league and overtake our rivals to secure a UCL qualification spot.

We have now won our last two PL games to start a winning run, and Antonio Conte will hope to make it a hat-trick against the Red Devils this weekend to push higher up the league table. All eyes will be on Kane to see if he can continue his wonderful scoring streak as well, and if Doherty can put in another solid performance to really cement his place in our defence.
