Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in Juventus star Juan Cuadrado

According to Italian football journalist Rudy Galetti (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Juventus star Juan Cuadrado this summer in an attempt to add more quality to the side.

Manager Antonio Conte was brought in late last year to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo and guide the club back up the Premier League table after results under the Portuguese coach left us well away from a top-four spot.

The Italian boss has long complained about the lack of quality and the level that the Spurs team he inherited is at, conceding there is much work to do and reinforcements are needed in order to turn the side into world-beaters.

The January transfer window saw the club bring in Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus while letting Dele Alli go permanently, and allowing Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, and Tanguy Ndombele to leave on loan spells until the end of the season.

Return to Juventus?

Now, it looks like the Lilywhites are prepared to head back to Italy to sign more players in the summer, with football director Fabio Paratici said to be interested in signing Cuadrado from his old employers.

The Colombia international is out of contract at the end of the campaign, which means he is available as a free agent as things stand. With the player yet to commit his future with the Bianconeri, Tottenham are monitoring his situation in Italy.

Despite being 33, the Juve star has proven to be one of the most consistent players in Turin over the past couple of years, with the Colombian regularly featuring for the side since his move from Chelsea.

Cuadrado not only has experience playing in the Premier League, but he is also a league title and League Cup winner in England, which is something a majority of the current Tottenham players cannot boast about. The ex-Fiorentina man has played for both Chelsea and Juve in his career, but just not at the time when Conte was the manager of those teams.

His versatility has been on show in Italy, with the player capable of playing in a variety of positions on the right flank, either in defence or midfield. Having been linked to Adama Traore in the winter transfer window to strengthen the same position, the idea behind pursuing Cuadrado can be understood.

Cuadrado is quick off the blocks and is no stranger to attacking the opposition’s wings throughout the course of the game. He has played in a five-man backline at the Old Lady in the past and there is no real reason why he wouldn’t be able to do it at N17- were we to ever sign him.
