Real Madrid enters transfer race for Serge Gnabry amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest

According to Christian Falk and Tobi Altschaffl of Sport Bild via iMiaSanMia on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid have entered the race to sign Serge Gnabry amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window. This update would deal a blow to the English club as the competition has increased even further.

David Alaba is pushing from the front to help Real in their pursuit to secure Gnabry’s services. Alaba has a strong bond with the attacker during their time together at Bayern Munich. They have contacted the forward’s camp to discuss a potential move, but they only have “loose” connections with each other for now.

Gnabry’s priority still seems to be staying with Bayern Munchen as he does not want to leave after this season. The German’s contract will expire in 2023, which has alerted his side as they are eager to renew his deal. That being said, they will look to sell him this summer if an extension cannot be reached in the coming months.

More concerns for Spurs

The entry of Los Blancos will make life difficult for sure, considering their current stature. We are simply not in a position to take them head-on under the current circumstances. We do have a project that the club is building under Antonio Conte, which could help us make a case for ourselves.

Alaba’s friendship with Gnabry would be a thorn in our pursuit, but fortunately for us, the latter has no strong contact with Carlo Ancelotti’s side. What makes matters worse is how the Bayern superstar has made up his mind set on staying at the Allianz Arena. As such, we have to hope that he will not be able to renew his contract in the months to come.

That possibility could be a distant outcome, considering how the Bavarian side also wants to keep hold of the Bundesliga winger. They are not lining up any possible replacements right now, which may possibly indicate that they are confident about an extension. That does not bode well for our interest but let’s wait and see how this situation pans out until this summer.

The North Londoners are not the only club who have become alerted to this situation, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester United keeping tabs on the former Arsenal man. Fabio Paratici will have a stern challenge in hand if the winger becomes available in the summer transfer window.

More Tottenham Hotspur News

Signing Gnabry would be a major statement from our side, but questions can be raised about whether we should go down this route with Dejan Kulusevksi in our ranks. Perhaps we could look to move out Lucas Moura, however harsh it may sound, and then target the German international.

After all, Kulusevski has become a key player for us in a matter of weeks since joining us in January. It may not be in our best interests to halt his progress by bringing in Gnabry. Then again, if we want to challenge for titles against the heavyweights, we need quality options throughout the squad.
