Tottenham Hotspur suffer transfer blow as Bayer Leverkusen confirm striker Patrik Schick is not for sale

According to The Sun, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has spoken out about the future of striker Patrik Schick, saying the player was not for sale, in turn, delivering a transfer blow to Tottenham Hotspur, who are among several clubs interested in the star.

Spurs currently only have Harry Kane to rely on in attack for the goals, with the Englishman the only natural number nine available to the club in the senior squad. Manager Antonio Conte may be keen on signing support for Kane in the summer, and Schick was eyed as a target.

However, Carro dashed these dreams by revealing that Leverkusen had no intention of selling Schick, so there was no need to even discuss the matter further. This comes as bad news just for Tottenham, but also for other Premier League sides such as Manchester City, Arsenal, West Ham, and Everton, who were interested in the forward.

“No, we’re not going to sell Patrik Schick, so there is no need to talk at all.”

Amongst the English clubs targeting Schick at the end of the season, it is arch-rivals Arsenal, said to be leading the race for the 26-year-old striker. Having lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January to Barcelona, they will be looking at replacements for the Gabon international in the summer.

“Very comfortable with us”

For a player that has never played in England before, there seems to be immense interest from the Premier League for Schick, who has enjoyed a brilliant season in the Bundesliga this term as he has fired Leverkusen to third place in the league table.

Carro however, has sent a transfer warning to other clubs looking to snap up the player in the summer by saying that the Czech Republic international was very comfortable in Germany and that they were planning to keep him for the next few years.

“He feels very comfortable with us. We count on him in planning for the next few years.”

Evidently, the German side are in no rush to sell their top talents as they look to solidify their position in the Bundesliga and fight for a Champions League place. They seem to be keen on battling alongside Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in Europe next term, and so, they will need their best players to stick around.

Schick is certainly one of the best they have in the first-team squad, with the striker netting 20 times in as many appearances in the league this season. He seems to be a consistent and reliable goal outlet, which is something that Conte and Co. will also be hoping for ahead of the new campaign.

There may be too much pressure on Kane at the moment, with the England skipper bearing the brunt of scoring the goals for the club. Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-Min have stepped up in recent weeks, but the onus is still always on the academy product.

With any hope of signing Schick ruined by Carro, it is now time to set eyes on other forward options ahead of the summer transfer window. If we are to compete for trophies next season, then we need quality options in the squad apart from just having to rely on Kane.
