Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur retain interest in Leeds United winger Jack Harrison

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur remains interested in securing the services of Leeds United winger Jack Harrison ahead of the summer transfer window. He has had a solid season so far despite his team struggling to recapture their form from the last campaign.

Tottenham had tried to sign Harrison in January, and they even approached Leeds to facilitate a potential transfer. However, his team were not willing to part ways with the winger during a season. Antonio Conte’s side will try their cards for a possible move once again this summer.

The England attacker was viewed as someone who could play as a left-wingback as well as a left-winger in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. Spurs were made aware of the forward after Andrea Pirlo had alerted Fabio Paratici about Harrison. Pirlo was a teammate of the Leeds star during their time together in New York City.

Do Spurs need Harrison?

The 25-year-old is primarily a left-winger while being versatile enough to play on the opposite side as well. He has also put in a shift as a left-sided midfielder or even a left-back when needed. Perhaps, that could be the reason why he was considered as a potential option to add more competition to Sergio Reguilon and Ryan Sessegnon.

Then again, Harrison plays up to his full potential as a left-winger, having scored seven goals and two assists this term from 30 matches across all competitions. The Whites signed him from Manchester City for a move worth £11million in transfer fees after impressing in his first two seasons in the Premier League.

As such, the North London club should only target the Leeds ace if they want him to provide backup to Son Heung-Min. However, that would raise questions regarding Steven Bergwijn’s future at N17, considering how he has struggled to garner game times in the past few weeks or so.

Perhaps, Bergwijn could be utilised as a backup to Harry Kane while Harrison can provide more depth on the left-hand side of the attack. Then again, it would ultimately be down to the Spurs coach and how he wants the Whites forward to be used- if we end up signing him this summer.

Conte has converted Ivan Perisic and Victor Moses as wing-backs in his previous tenures and there is a possibility that Harrison could be deployed in a similar role. However, for that to happen, Leeds must decide to part ways with their attacker, but we are unsure whether that would happen or not.

We could see our chances of a successful raid on Elland Road increase if they end up relegating after this season. They are around the drop zone at this point, even if they have a solid gap from the last three spots. So let’s wait and see how this situation pans out in the coming months ahead of the next campaign.
