Tottenham Hotspur is one of the likely destinations for Middlesbrough starlet Djed Spence
According to The Sunday Mirror [Print Edition] (h/t Hartlepool Mail), Tottenham Hotspur are claimed to be one of the likely destinations for Middlesbrough starlet Djed Spence in the future. He has earned quite a name for himself this season, having impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest so far.
Spence has been loaned out by Boro on a season-long temporary transfer to Forest. He was down the pecking order at his parent club due to Isaiah Jones’ presence, who has been terrific throughout the current campaign. However, the loanee has taken advantage of the minutes he has received at his loan side to make a case for himself.
Tottenham are interested in securing the 21-year-old’s services in the summer transfer window. Arsenal will also rival them in this transfer race, with both North London clubs being touted as the most probable destination for the right-back after this term. Liverpool and Bayern Munich were also in the mix, but it seems that they have pulled out for now.
Transfer advantage?
The Englishman has attracted immense attention from top clubs across Europe thanks to his performances this season. While the Reds and Bayern Munchen are no longer pursuing the youngster, their past interest is a great nod to the quality that he possesses.
The Championship fullback has shown all the signs that he could be a future superstar in the making provided proper guidance is provided. We could use someone like him in our ranks especially considering how wingbacks play a crucial role under Antonio Conte.
However, Conte has not been blessed with quality options in the right-wingback position, with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty largely struggling to impress. The defensive duo’s form has admittedly improved in recent times, with Doherty in particular, standing out. Royal has also shown some signs of brilliance, even if it has not been consistent enough.
There is a need to bolster our squad across multiple areas this summer if there are plans to challenge for titles under the Italian boss. Signing superstars and experienced players would not always be easy, and it could also prove to be expensive.

As such, targeting talented prospects like Spence could be a great piece of business from Fabio Paratici. It would not be easy, though, with the Gunners vying to secure the right-back’s services. We should also be wary of the possibility that Jurgen Klopp’s side and Bayern would rekindle their interest in the future.
However, we should take advantage of the opportunity we have in our hands and get this deal done before the competition makes their move. Let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the months to come ahead of the next campaign.
