Injury News: Emi Buendia facing a race against time to be fit for Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur

According to the official website of Aston Villa, Steven Gerrard has revealed that Emi Buendia might not feature for the club against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Spurs travel to Villa Park on the heels of their 5-1 thrashing of Newcastle United and moving to the fourth spot. They will be keen to hold onto the position and will look to secure three points against a solid Villans side.

The Liverpool legend has improved the Midlands side’s fortunes, taking them from the relegation zone to the cusp of breaking into the top ten. It is fair to say that he is slowing his worth as a manager, proving that the stint at Rangers was no fluke.

Emi Buendia joined Aston Villa from Norwich City in 2021.

Speaking ahead of the game, Gerrard revealed that both Tyrone Mings and Buendia picked up niggles in their previous game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. While the former trained yesterday and is available, the latter’s situation remains unclear.

“Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings picked up niggles from Wolves. Tyrone trained yesterday and he’s been ok, so he’s available.”

While Mings is available, the same cannot be said of Buendia, who only returned to training today. The Argentine has blown hot and cold at Villa Park and it remains to be seen if he will make the cut ahead of the clash. His return will certainly hand Tottenham another attacker to contend with.

As long as Buendia does not exacerbate his injury, he is likely to make the matchday squad. For now, we will have to adopt the wait and watch approach.

“Emi Buendia trained today and assuming there’s no reaction from today’s session, he’ll be available. That makes us virtually full strength.”

One player who has waited enough is Marvelous Nakamba. He has enjoyed a good runout for the Under-23s and looks set to return to Villa this weekend. Gerrard has confirmed that he will make the squad. Whether he will take to the field remains to be seen but we would hope that it is not the case, considering he is one of their better enforcers in midfield.

Gerrard more or less has a full-strength squad at his disposal. It will certainly not make Tottenham’s task easier but they have what it takes to land the killing blow. All eyes will be on Villa Park and Antonio Conte as the top four race resumes this weekend.

We escaped with a narrow win against Villa in the PL in October 2021 but may have it tougher this time around at their home stadium.
