Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min hails Hugo Lloris for inspired first-half display vs Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min has applauded Hugo Lloris for his inspired first-half display against Aston Villa yesterday. The skipper dropped one of his best performances of this season to keep his side in contention as they won 4-0 at the end of the day.

Son opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of the Premier League fixture, giving control to Tottenham in the process. However, Villa responded with conviction as they generated opportunities with Philippe Coutinho being heavily involved in the build-up. However, Lloris stepped up to intervene and keep them at bay throughout the first 45 minutes.

Speaking in the post-match interview to Match of the Day (h/t The Mirror), Son has praised the Spurs skipper for his contribution to keeping the scoreline 1-0 in the first half. The hat-trick hero added that they could have been trailing 3-1 at the break if not for their captain’s performance.

“Without Hugo, we were probably 3-1 down in the first half. Hugo saved us today and it was a big performance from our captain when we needed him and he turned up saving every ball. He was unbelievable.”

Bravo Lloris!

Before this match, there were a couple of times when Lloris felt out of sorts as he could have done better to keep out the goals. However, he has bounced back with a fine display and has added this one to his list of splendid performances over the past year or so. He has showcased his ability to keep playing at the top level despite being in the latter stages of his career.

At the same time, it also instils some worries about how we can replace him with someone equally capable. Lloris is far too valuable in our team, and we need someone who possesses enough quality to take the reins from Lloris in the future.

The Frenchman’s display should be a warning to the board about the challenging task that lies ahead of them. Pierluigi Gollini is not the man to lead us moving forward, as he has not showcased any signs to deserve the starting spot.

Lloris still has some years left in his bag at the top-flight, which should give us some time to find a suitable replacement moving forward. Let’s hope that they can find an adequate solution so that we would not need to worry about life past the 35-year-old.

With the summer transfer window set to arrive soon, it would be ideal to sign someone with that in mind. Gollini should be allowed to return to Atalanta after his loan spell, which does open up a spot for the addition of another shot-stopper.
