AC Milan optimistic about beating Tottenham Hotspur to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio
According to the Italian news outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), AC Milan are optimistic about beating Tottenham Hotspur to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio in the future. He has enjoyed a decent season so far compared to how his career has stagnated over the last few years or so.
Asensio has been linked with an exit from Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window. He will see his current contract with Real expire at the end of the next season. That has seen him attract attention from several major European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tottenham and Milan have already registered an interest in the Spaniard, but they are not alone in this transfer race. Arsenal are also in the fray at this moment ahead of this summer. That being said, the Italian side is confident about agreeing to a deal since they have already held discussions over a potential move with the 26-year-old’s representatives.
Should Spurs sign Asensio?
Asensio has shown some signs of resurgence under Carlo Ancelotti this season. While his minutes have largely been inconsistent due to competition on the right-wing, he still has provided a solid return in terms of goal contributions.
The La Liga ace has failed to live up to his full potential, and a change of scenario could do him good moving forward. While we have Dejan Kulusevski in our ranks in that same position, Lucas Moura could be moved out to bring in a younger who is arguably a better attacking option.
Asensio could be that man for us, but Antonio Conte’s side would need to ramp up their efforts if this update is believed to be true. After all, the Serie A club have already engaged in talks over a potential move, which does put us at a disadvantage right now.
The Gunners being in the race also makes life difficult for us, although our priority should be to pip the Rossoneri moving forward. The latter is currently in a position where they can offer Champions League football to Los Blancos attacker should he join them this term.
