Tottenham Hotspur handed Joe Gomez transfer boost as Liverpool line up a replacement
According to the Italian outlet TuttoMercato (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in the race to sign Joe Gomez as Liverpool are lining up Gleison Bremer as a replacement this summer. Gomez has been linked with an exit from Anfield, and he is expected to depart due to a lack of game time.
Jurgen Klopp would like to keep hold of Gomez, but he is not in a position to guarantee minutes to the centre-back. As such, the Reds are preparing for his potential departure, and they have identified Bremer as a top target should the exit happen this summer. This news would give a boost to Tottenham, who have been linked with the Liverpool star.
That being said, Spurs are not the only interested party from the Premier League who are given a boost by the Merseyside club’s stance. Leicester City and Aston Villa have shown an interest to secure the Englishman’s services. Fulham have also been linked with a potential transfer for the Reds ace.
Spurs given Gomez opportunity?
The 24-year-old has failed to garner even 1000 minutes of action this term despite Klopp’s side playing in several competitions even now. Hence, it is understandable why a man of his talents would want to move elsewhere, especially when the 2022 Qatar World Cup is on the horizon. After all, he needs minutes to convince Gareth Southgate about a spot in the team.
Staying with Klopp’s side would not guarantee that, looking at the PL central defender’s struggles to earn game time. That opens up the way for the North Londoners to try their chances of signing him in the summer transfer window. After all, Liverpool will not stand in his way if he pushes for a move.
We could use a centre-back in our ranks, especially when Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez have been deemed dispensable by Antonio Conte. The defensive duo has not been able to earn even a bit of game time in the past few weeks. Even Japhet Tanganga can be replaced with a better option.
While Ben Davies has fared well for us as a left-sided centre-back, it would still be wise to bring in someone who is naturally accustomed to that role. Gomez can be that man, plus we can also offer him the prospect of playing under Conte. That should give him the best possible chance of making a case with Southgate ahead of the World Cup.

That being said, our rivals cannot be taken lightly either, as clubs like Villa and Leicester have the capabilities to leapfrog us in this transfer race. However, unlike them, we are currently building a project to challenge for titles under Conte, albeit being a work in progress right now.
That means a move to N17 would be the best bet to have a shot at winning titles when looking at the other interested parties. We should use that advantage to our best and prise Gomez at the earliest before other parties make their move. Let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the next few months.
