Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur among preferred destinations for Benfica star Darwin Nunez
According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are among the preferred destinations where Benfica star Darwin Nunez is open to taking his talents too. He is in line to be subjected to a transfer tussle at the end of the current campaign as several clubs have added him to their shortlists.
Nunez is set to become one of the most sought after superstars in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese side are ready to cash in on the centre-forward if their valuation is met by any of the interested parties. They have set an asking price of around £65million for his services, similar to the one they had slapped in January.
West Ham United were close to signing the Uruguayan in the winter transfer window, but they failed in their pursuit in the end. However, it seems that he already has certain clubs on his radar ahead of a potential move. Tottenham are one of those, with Arsenal and Liverpool forming the two other sides preferred by the striker.
Can Spurs take advantage?
This update would be a great piece of news for the North Londoners, considering how they can use the 22-year-old’s preference to finalise a move. However, with the Gunners and the Reds also being in the same boat, a potential transfer would not be easy for us.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are in a far better place than us at the moment, although they do have Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino in their squad. Mikel Arteta’s side, meanwhile, is desperate for a centre-forward addition due to the lack of options in their ranks. They are also in line to lose Alexandre Lacazette for free this summer.
Nunez’s entourage is looking for a club where he would enjoy regular minutes while also having lots of space to impose his physical style of play. Game time can be an issue for us, considering how Harry Kane would obviously be the starter under Antonio Conte.
Nunez’s camp also admire Manchester City but they do not view the Etihad as an ideal place that suits the forward’s style of play. Manchester United meanwhile are considered to be risky due to the current situation surrounding the club.

Kane’s future at N17 is surrounded by uncertainty as we still do not know what lies in store for us moving forward. While we remain optimistic about the Englishman staying with us, we still need to prepare for the worst so Nunez can be a great option to replace him.
Nunez is one of the future superstars in the making and he could attain newer heights under a world-class coach like Conte. His price tag is also reasonable under the current circumstances but let’s wait and see whether we would actively pursue him this summer or not.
