Arsenal set to hold transfer talks with Galatasaray for Tottenham Hotspur target Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu

According to the Turkish publication Star Gazetesi (h/t The Express), Arsenal are plotting to engage in transfer talks with Galatasaray for Tottenham Hotspur target Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu. They have decided to schedule the meeting soon after the conclusion of the current season.

Kerem Akturkoglu is one of the highly-rated prospects in the Turkish Super Lig, and he has naturally attracted lots of attention as a result. Tottenham are already in the running for his services, but their bitter rivals, the Gunners, have now entered the transfer race. The latter has scheduled negotiations this summer over a potential move.

Akturkoglu has recently signed a lucrative contract with the Turkish giants, but he is expected to leave in the future. It is stated that they could be tempted by transfer bids between £16million and £17million for his signature. The Kocaeli-born forward has spent his entire professional career in his home country.

Spurs need Akturkoglu?

The 23-year-old has been in fine form throughout this campaign despite his side having endured a difficult term so far. With 11 goals and ten assists from 46 games across all competitions during this period, it is no wonder why teams have turned their focus towards the attacker.

With Mikel Arteta’s side posing new competition for us, we need to be wary of the increased demand for the Turkish international. Since they have set up a timeline to engage in talks over a potential move, we need to make a case for ourselves if there are active plans to sign him.

The aforementioned valuation is arguably feasible for someone who recently signed a new deal while showcasing a great deal of promise as well. As such, we would be wise to try and prise the Galatasaray forward away at the earliest as several clubs are vying to get their hands on him ahead of the next season.

After all, Atletico Madrid, Olympique Lyonnais and VfL Wolfsburg are monitoring the TSL ace’s situation as they are eager to sign him. That means we could potentially see a bidding war this summer which shows the stern challenge that awaits us in the future.

While we are currently stacked in the left-wing position, doubts can be raised against Steven Bergwijn’s future. He has struggled to get game time, and a man of his talents would surely like to be a starter for a top team. With Son Heung-Min ahead of him, that seems to be a distant possibility at N17 right now.

Akturkoglu would be a fine choice if we are looking to increase our depth down the wings, but it remains to be seen whether we will sign him or not this summer. The last time the Lilywhites did any direct business for a player with the Turkish giants was all the way back in 2010, when we loaned Giovani dos Santos out for half a season.
