Spurs News: Oliver Skipp has signed a contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur

According to the club’s official websiteOliver Skipp has completed signing his contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur as the club has announced it on their official Twitter handle. This news would be a great piece of news, considering how he has developed to become a top player in the last two years.

Skipp has penned a new deal with Tottenham, which will see him stay with them until 2027. He has been out of contention for quite a while and is currently recovering from a pelvic injury. However, this latest development would give him a much-needed boost in morale as the club has repaid his progress with a deserved renewal.

The Englishman had made his debut for the first team back in October 2018 in a Carabao Cup win over West Ham United. While he did take some time to fully become a regular since then, the progress over the years has been natural, having enjoyed a successful loan spell with Norwich City last season.

Deserved!

The 21-year-old had become a key player under Antonio Conte before suffering the current setback. However, it is expected that he will regain his prominence after achieving full fitness as he continues his rehab process. Perhaps, this extension has come at a perfect time as he has missed more than two months of action at this point.

Speaking in an open interview regarding his renewal (h/t Daily Mail Online), Skipp has expressed that he is ecstatic about the extension with the North London club. The Premier League ace added how he is grateful to the club for supporting him since his childhood days to help him get through to this stage.

“You can never have thought that a young boy walking through at six/seven and signing at Under-9s would get to this stage, so I’m delighted to sign this new deal. It’s something that I’m grateful for.”

“I think it means a lot when you’ve grown up at this club, my whole family supports the club. It means a lot when you step out in front of the crowd. I’ve missed that feeling obviously in the last few months! But it’s something that I’m pushing to feel again.”

It is good to see the academy graduate being happy with his new contract, as the acknowledgement from the club would undoubtedly push him to do even better from here on out. For that to happen, though, he must return to action first, which we hope to see at the earliest.

We have missed the Spurs midfielder’s services at times which was the case in the recent 1-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. Perhaps his guile and creative presence could have helped us get over the line during that defeat, but unfortunately, he was not available for selection.

Skipp would probably be one of the main cogs for Conte to build his team around for the future. With his current deal set to expire only in 2027, it is with that long term plan in mind that the board have decided to go down this route. Fans would be happy with the decision they have taken and would hope he fulfils his potential in the years to come.

With Rodrigo Bentancur, there is added competition for him in midfield. With Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele also set to return from their respective loan spells, it would be interesting to see how Conte makes use of the talented Englishman.
