Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte shares his delight at Oliver Skipp penning new contract

In his pre-match presser for the clash against Brentford as quoted by tottenhamhotspurfc.com, Antonio Conte gave a glowing verdict regarding Tottenham Hotspur youngster Oliver Skipp who just received a new contract from the club.

The 21-year-old was slowly starting to cement his place under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo. He is also regarded highly by the Italian manager but an injury has now kept him on the sidelines for quite a while.

His new contract with the Lilwyhites runs until 2027 and the former Chelsea manager couldn’t help but express his delight at the situation. Skipp has been a sturdy presence in the middle of the park along with his determination to win the ball for his team

Speaking to the media as quoted by tottenhamhotspurfc.com, Conte highlighted that the club from N-17 has a lot of trust in the youngster. He also spoke about the unfortunate tryst with injury at the moment.

“I’m very happy for Skippy, because he’s not only a good player, but we are also talking about a fantastic guy. Unfortunately, he’s having a bit of a problem with his injury, because in this moment he’s not available. I know his frustration. I think this new contract shows him that we trust him a lot. He’ll be very important for the present and for the future of Tottenham. I’m delighted for him.”

Skipp till 2027

It can be a dream for any budding footballer to represent his boyhood club on the big stage. Skipp joined the Spurs academy at the age of six and now sees himself when fit playing alongside superstars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

It would be nothing short of a dream come true for the lad but there is still a long path ahead if he wants to maintain this level. The 21-year-old midfielder went out on loan to Norwich City last season making 47 appearances, bagging one goal and two assists across all competitions for the Canaries.

He has grown in leaps and bounds over the last few years and can hopefully go on to marshall our midfield for years to come. Injuries are at times part and parcel of the game but we hope that it doesn’t cause him any long-term impediments.

With the high-flying wing-backs preferred by Conte, a player with the defensive acumen of Oliver Skipp could be a great option to have. He adds the extra layer of rigidity and could be more than a vital asset when clubbed alongside Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

At the moment Skipp is growing at a great trajectory and we hope that he can maintain this progress for years to come.
