Inter Milan set to sell Tottenham Hotspur targets Lautaro Martinez and Stefan de Vrij this summer
According to the Italian outlet TuttoSport (h/t The Sun), Inter Milan are willing to sell Tottenham Hotspur targets Lautaro Martinez and Stefan de Vrij in the summer transfer window. This update could be a major opportunity in the making for the English club as it offers them the possibility to greatly boost their squad’s quality.
Inter are going through a bit of a financial crisis right now, which has forced its owner Suning to raise more funds to balance the books. They are planning to part ways with three big names in their squad to meet the necessary requirements. They want to raise £50million through sales while also freeing up £17million on their wage bills.
Martinez and De Vrij are among their lists, but they are also joined by Denzel Dumfries, Nicolo Barella, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni. Tottenham are keeping tabs on the former duo, and they could register their interest in the superstars should they become available at the end of this season.
Opportunity for Spurs?
This latest information will be a great piece of news for those at N17 if there are active plans to sign Martinez and De Vrij in the future. The latter’s signing can be deemed necessary since we do lack quality central defensive choices in our ranks. After all, the likes of Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez could be moved out for better options.
Hence, De Vrij is a no-brainer signing, and the North London side would be wise to push ahead with a move for the centre-back. Things would not be easy, though, as Newcastle United are also admirers of his talents, and they would be alerted to the latest developments.
As for Martinez, a centre-forward superstar like him would only make sense if we lose Harry Kane’s services moving forward. If Kane stays with us, there is no reason for us to target the Serie A attacker since we would only need a backup striker option.
As such, we are playing a waiting game with Martinez to see whether his signing would be needed in the future. The club will apparently face competition from Arsenal, who are keen on securing his signature. Manchester United could be another obstacle as they have proposed a cash plus player swap deal involving Anthony Martial.
Whatever the case may be, it would be best to set things up in advance so that we can make adequate choices when the summer transfer window eventually arrives. Signing highly rated superstars like Martinez and De Vrij would go a long way in boosting our current project under Antonio Conte.

There is a need to uplift the quality of the squad in several areas but whether the Nerazzurri duo would be one to do that or not remains to be seen. Martinez certainly offers an exciting opportunity of seeing Harry Kane play with a strike partner while de Vrij would unarguably be a regular starter- but for that to happen, Spurs would have to formalise their apparent interest in the duo.
