Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Juventus for West Ham United star Tomas Soucek

According to The Express, Tottenham Hotspur will face off against Juventus for the services of West Ham United star Tomas Soucek ahead of the summer transfer window. He has been a crucial component for David Moyes since joining them after leaving Slavia Prague back in 2020.

Soucek has attracted attention from Tottenham and Juve as a result, and they could make a move to sign him at the end of this season. The Italian side has already approached West Ham regarding a potential transfer, and the latter has responded by giving a £40million price tag for the midfielder.

The Bianconeri are looking to restructure their midfield, and they have identified the Czech Republic midfielder as a potential target. Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of the player, and he wants to sign the star to strengthen his midfield options at Spurs for the next campaign.

Can Spurs sign Soucek?

Soucek has played a key role in helping Moyes improve the Hammers to reach the current stage. They have put up a good fight for the top four places in the Premier League table and are now in contention to get into the top six spots as of now. Moreover, they are also in the semi-finals of the Europa League at this moment.

Soucek would be a useful addition for the North Londoners indeed, looking at his performances over the last two years. Moreover, he has also garnered valuable experience in the English top-flight, making him an even more attractive prospect to bolster our midfield options.

However, we need to be wary of our London rivals since they are currently engaged in discussions with the 27-year-old over an extension. His current contract will expire in 2024, with Soucek demanding a pay rise from his £70,000-a-week salary. The negotiations are set to continue only this summer which is a sigh of relief at this moment.

The Hammers ace’s current valuation is relatively reasonable as he is entering the prime years of his playing career. What’s more, he is an important player for a club on the rise and his current contract, coupled with the interest from the Serie A giants, certainly makes it feasible.

Since Massimiliano Allegri’s side has already made its advances, we cannot afford to sit idle if there are plans to sign the Czech Republic star. As such, the club’s board would be smart to do their best and help Conte land the ex-Slavia Prague star ahead of his former club.

Soucek is a smart defensive midfielder who has combined superbly with Declan Rice to give stability to David Moyes’ midfield. Since the Englishman is rated around £150m and is in high demand, it certainly seems like a financially healthier move for clubs to perhaps look at his partner in midfield, Soucek.

Juventus are giants in Italy and would arguably offer UEFA Champions League football to Soucek on most occasions. Spurs, while in a position to finish in the top four this season, still have Arsenal to leapfrog. Whether this becomes a deciding factor in any potential deal for Soucek is anyone’s guess but top players generally like to play in the biggest competitions in the world.
