Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Aston Villa for Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij
According to Football Insider (h/t The Shields Gazette), Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out with Aston Villa for the services of Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij for a potential transfer this summer. He could be in line to leave his current club at the end of the current campaign, paving the way for a stern pursuit.
Inter have conveyed to De Vrij that he could look for a new challenge after this season. They have slapped an asking price worth £15million for his signature. Tottenham has expressed an interest in signing him, and they could try to match that valuation as a result.
That being said, things would not be easy for Spurs despite the low price tag. Villa would pose an obstacle for them to overcome, but they are not the only Premier League side in this transfer race. Newcastle United are also in the fray at this moment, which could potentially create a transfer tussle this summer.

Can Spurs beat off their rivals?
The prospect of signing the Dutch international is something that we must seriously consider as he still has some years left in the top flight. Moreover, he has previously played under Antonio Conte during their time together with the Nerazzurri, making him a more attractive option.
The North London side could use a man of De Vrij’s talents since they only have a few reliable options in their squad at this moment. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies are the only dependable choices for Conte right now which is not ideal, to say the least.

After all, the Italian manager utilises a three at the back system, making the current set of options, not enough moving forward. What’s more, Davies is a left-back, which makes it even more necessary to bring in De Vrij in the summer transfer window.

With Steven Gerrard’s side posing competition in this pursuit, we must remain on our toes since they are looking to raise their level for a better future. Newcastle is in a similar boat, and they cannot be taken lightly either.
However, we remain confident that the prospect of playing under Conte and a better team could cement our authority in this transfer race. Only time will tell whether that will happen or not at the end of this season.
