Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur express interest in Everton star Jordan Pickford
According to talkSPORT (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest in facilitating a potential transfer for Everton star Jordan Pickford after this season. His future is surrounded by uncertainty at this moment, which could result in his departure this summer.
Pickford still has two years left in his current contract with the Toffees. Despite that, his future is up in the air as they are contemplating parting ways with him at the end of this term. They could decide to sell him even if they would survive the relegation battle after this campaign.
Frank Lampard’s side are assessing the options regarding a potential sale to raise funds for a rebuild. Tottenham could be handed a boost for that reason, although they will face competition from Newcastle United in this transfer race.
Pickford, a right choice?
The England international recently dropped one of his best performances of the season in the 1-0 victory against Chelsea. He can also be considered to be the favourite for the starting role under Gareth Southgate’s England national team.
Despite that, the 28-year-old may not be the right fit for us at this point, especially when he wants to protect his role for his country. With Hugo Lloris in the ranks, it is unlikely that Pickford would agree to play a diminished role, just as Pierluigi Gollini has done so far this season.
Gollini is set to return to Atalanta this summer following his season-long loan spell. As such, we would need someone who can play second fiddle to Lloris for now while offering enough quality to compete for the starting role. Pickford could do that, but his desire to play as a starter in the 2022 Qatar World Cup could act against our interest.
Newcastle’s interest could be troublesome, but their rivalry with Sunderland and the Toffees ace’s affiliation to the latter could help us out in that regard. Now we have to wait and see whether the Merseyside club would decide to sell him or not after this campaign.

An exit could be on the cards should they relegate to the Championship, as Pickford is stated to push for a move in order to aid his World Cup prospects with England. The Liverpool based club are still at risk of dropping down to the second division, which could give us a helping hand in this transfer race.
Then again, with Lloris at the helm, it would be interesting to see whether we would decide to stick with the skipper in the near future. Perhaps, we could look for a younger option who would agree to play as an understudy under the Frenchman and take over the reins in the future.
