Three Potential Spurs Signings That Won’t Break The Bank

The 2021-22 Premier League season is not yet finished, but head coaches and managers of the top flight clubs are already preparing for next season. Antonio Conte is most certainly looking at strengthening his Tottenham Hostpur squad, which could do with reinforcements throughout if we are being perfectly honest.

Daniel Levy is infamous for holding the purse strings tightly, a man always looking out for the best deal. There will likely be many comings and goings to and from the Spurs camp over the summer. Still, they could do much worse than looking at the following trio of stars who should be available after the season concludes and be available without breaking the bank.

Getting their hands on all three should make Spurs a force to be reckoned with during the upcoming 2022-23 season and push them towards the top of the pile with .

Max Aarons – Norwich City

Spurs have struggled in the right-back position since Kyle Walker left for Manchester City in July 2017. Several players have come in and attempted to replace Walker, yet none of them has made the position their own. Matt Doherty is solid, if not great, and FC Barcelona must be laughing all the way to the bank after Spurs agreed to pay £25.8 million for Emerson Royal.

Max Aarons has been a rare shining light in an otherwise abysmal season for Norwich City. The Canaries have been relegated to the Championship yet again, which means Aarons could become available.

Aarons is not on massive wages, and Norwich is a well-run outfit, meaning they are not desperate to sell players, but Aarons is out of contract in 2024, so a reasonable bid could tempt the relegated team to part company with one of their rising stars.

Aarons has now played more than 60 Premier League games and does not look out of his depth despite being surrounded by poor quality teammates. Signing Aarons sparks similarities with Liverpool signing Andy Robertson from Hull City five years ago. Robertson joined Liverpool for only £8 million after Hull City’s relegation. He has since gone on to become one of the best left-backs in the world now he is playing in a stronger team with quality teammates.

North London rivals Arsenal are reportedly interested in Aarons, as are Manchester United.

Paulo Dybala – Juventus

Conte has never denied he is interested in linking up with Argentinian playmaker Paulo Dybala. Dybala is well-known to Conte after his time managing in Serie A.

While the 28-year-old will command massive wages, a salary that would likely make him the highest-paid player at the club, he is available on a free transfer which negates those ongoing costs.

Reports from Italy suggested Dybala was ready to put pen to paper on a new deal, but contract talks have stalled. Furthermore, Inter Milan is said to be monitoring Dybala’s situation, but the lure of the Premier League and Conte is powerful.

Spurs could do with a player in Dybala’s mould. They have been crying out for an actual number ten since the days of Luka Modric and Christian Eriksen.

Acquiring Dybala would be considered a significant upgrade on the likes of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, the latter having made noises about leaving this summer.

Kalvin Phillips – Leeds United

Kalvin Phillips would be it if you could single out one player from the Leeds United squad who improved the most under the now-sacked Marcelo Bielsa. “El Loco” transformed Phillips from an ineffective box-to-box midfielder into one of the best defensive midfielders in the country.

Leeds United fans call Phillips “The Yorkshire Pirlo” due to his calmness on the ball and his incredible range of passing. Everything positive about Leeds goes through Phillips, and it is no surprise they are relegation-threatened this season with the talismanic midfielder missing half the campaign through injury.

Phillips is still only 26 years old and arguably has his best years ahead of him. Should Leeds drop into the Championship, which looks likely, a £40 million bid could be enough to prise him away from Elland Road.

The Yorkshire Pirlo is loyal to Leeds, but the opportunity to work with Conte and there being no rivalry of note between Spurs and Leeds makes this signing more likely.
