Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could rival Leeds United for Wolves star Adama Traore
According to transfer insider Dean Jones on GiveMeSport (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Tottenham Hotspur could battle it out with Leeds United for the services of Wolves star Adama Traore ahead of the summer transfer window. He is currently out on loan at Barcelona for the remainder of this season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers had loaned Traore to Barca back in the January transfer window. He has endured a mixed time at Camp Nou so far, which has cast doubts on his future with them. As such, a return to the Premier League is on the cards when his loan spell eventually ends this summer.
Leeds are keen on monitoring the Spaniard’s situation if they survive the relegation battle this term. That being said, Tottenham could still prove to be an obstacle in their pathway as the former could potentially target the winger after the current campaign.
Can Spurs finally get their man?
It is well-known how Spurs were interested in signing the 26-year-old back in January, but they were leapfrogged by Barca in the end. However, it appears that we could get a second chance to finally acquire our target, as the Spanish club will not trigger his £25million buy option as it is deemed expensive.
Antonio Conte was eager to convert the Wanderers ace to a right wing-back which could still happen under the current circumstances. Should Traore return from his loan spell, perhaps we may see him ply his trade at N17 from the next season onwards.
While the Whites could pose issues for us, they would not be in the mix if they drop down to the Championship. They are currently in the drop zone, which means that we may have a free run at the Wolves loanee should they relegate after this term.
Conte similarly has converted wingers like Victor Moses at Chelsea and Ivan Perisic at Inter Milan to wing-backs, and the moves proved to be highly successful. He could do the same this time around if the North London club can sign Traore this summer.

That is a possibility that could unravel considering how Emerson Royal has struggled to make a case throughout this campaign. While he has shown some signs of life recently, it may be too late after all. Hence, we could potentially see a situation where Emerson could depart after only joining us last summer.
That could pave the way for Traore to come in and compete with Matt Doherty, who had impressed with flying colours before a season-ending injury stopped his development. Only time will give us an answer about what lies in store for us regarding this situation.
