Seven stars face the axe as Conte eyes Tottenham’s summer rebuild

Seven Tottenham Hotspur players could face the axe as Antonio Conte eyes rebuild

According to Daily Mail (h/t The Mirror), after securing Champions League qualification in his first season, Antonio Conte is eyeing a major rebuild at Tottenham Hotspur with seven current players facing the axe in the upcoming summer window.

When Conte joined last November, he had huge obstacles in front of him. However, after getting the Champions League qualification, the Italian manager has proven once again why he has been so successful with European teams. But the job isn’t finished and the 52-year-old is already looking to reshuffle his squad.

Tottenham have received a £150million cash injection from owner Joe Lewis recently and the majority of that money is expected to be used in transfers. They have already secured deals for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and are expected to add to that list.

Antonio Conte apparently met with the Spurs general manager Fabio Paratici last Friday in order to lay out the detailed blueprint for the following transfer window. It seems along with crucial arrivals, a major clearout is also expected to happen soon.

Tanguy Ndombele, Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn, Sergio Reguilon and Joe Rodon are expected to be among the players whose future remains up in the air as Antonio Conte looks to rebuild the team from the core.

Good move for Tottenham?

Considering the reputation of the Italian manager, only UCL qualification might not be enough as they would have to compete for the major titles. However, Tottenham haven’t enjoyed much success when it comes to getting results week in, week out- something which world-class teams such as Liverpool and Manchester City have mastered.

Antonio Conte understands the importance of the scenario and seems to have started his major rebuild with the arrival of new players. But Spurs also have to clear out spaces in the team for the new arrivals, which is achievable by offloading some off-form players.

Most of the aforementioned Spurs players haven’t been their best selves for a long time, which reflects they might not be the best fit for Conte’s plans. By offloading them our team would be able to secure a significant amount which later can be used in later signings. It remains to be seen how our board handles the matter in the coming window.

Bergwijn and Reguilon, in all honesty, are two names that the club would be wise to keep. That is, unless they have good replacements in mind. The Spanish full-back is a very solid player down the left-hand side of the defence while the Dutch winger’s versatility and quality give us good options in attack.

Harry Winks has also been decent for a while and while he isn’t one of the best in the world in his position, the Englishman is a player that would offer good stability on the bench.

An enthusiastic Premier League follower and die-hard football supporter. I am no expert, but I try to present the facts as it is to maintain transparency. Our opinion can differ, but our heart beats together when our favourite team wrestles it out on the ground.
